Suggestions - to meet Thai people ...
PLEASE REMEMBER - Almost everyone is a volunteer (free service) we make mistakes but we keep trying to help.

BSWA icon (Buddhist temples in W.A.) see timetable of activities and go. The obvious is Sunday prayer and social contact thereafter.... Everyone brings food to share. After prayer everyone has lunch, either in the temple or the park opposite the temple. Everyone (organisers to all that attend are incredibly friendly). I was so delighted by the warm welcome, much like when I visit Thailand and keep going. I should add some people may not eel comfortable that you just turn up and want to meet people but i you are enthusiastic and genuine I'm sure you will be well received

Yellow Pages Thai WA (link on left hand side of W.A. Thai homepage) we list whatever helps Aussie and Thai. Donations welcome....

b.t.w. to hyperlink a link

once you've typed the word, hilight it with the cursor then select the icon (chain)

example
type taawa, hilite it, select icon (chain) a window appears, paste the hyperlink and select open nerw page and it's done.

there is a help section in the forum, queries welcome

by the way (b.t.w.) the auswathai crew are in bangkok belting out Tourism stuff with volunteers at www.thaibis.com

Thanks for your advice. Not sure what happened with that last post, forgot the background was a very dark grey! But seriously, while Perth is a friendly city, staff don't have the time to spare during working hours, at places such as Thai restaurants and video stores. So I'm not surprised TCrane's efforts there were uneventful. If he had invited all the staff out for a drink after the restaurant had closed it could have been a different story! As I have mentioned on previous posts I'm attempting to hold a Thai Australia function at the Subiaco Petanque club for it is a sport Thai people excel in and those that do play it in Perth do extremely well. They are welcome to drop in any time on a Saturday afternoon for I'm normally there.

I had the same problem and it wasnt as easy as going to a website. Most people nowadays are very weary at who to trust from any site. My girlfreind had a stroke of luck meeting some Thai ladies at a fruit market and from their we began to meet more people.

Mind you it did take a while for her to get up the courage and introduce herself. My girlfreind is coming over again soon before I go back so if you are interested maybe we could exchange emails and catch up.

A start anyway and the offer is there.

The president of the WA Thai community WA; Khun Aud and her Aus husband (Khun Greg) are character +++ (really nice people jing jing) as r Thai people WA

Roaming Reporter: You seem to be missing the point of this thread. It's about how Thai people can get in contact with other Thai people, here in Perth, in a relaxed non confronting atmosphere and I can't see how you, "roaming in Bangkok" are going to help!!

I have given one option, they can come down to the Subiaco Petanque Club at the corner of Rokeby and Nicholson Rds in Subiaco, Perth on a Staturday afternoon and use our pitches as a meeting point, for there they will be most welcome. For that is what people come there for, to socialize and make friends. And if they want to play petanque as well they can, for its not a hard game to play at the social level.

Any member of this forum is invited and for those that want to, they can even arrange a time and date to meet. But by posting anonomously on a web forum, they are not going to meet anyone!!

We had hoped to have the Thai community involved in our Petanque State Awards Presentation evening, providing the food & entertainment, but with the scheduled date being the night before the King's birthday celebrations here in Perth, unfortunately that no longer appears a possibility.

In 2002 after being approached by some pétanque players to start the game on a social basis, the Australian Mauritian Association decided to introduce pétanque as a sporting activity. As a number of their members were interested in the sport it seemed only natural for their association to follow that path.

My feeling is the Thai community here in Perth should follow suite for having the world’s second largest number of registered players, and in a sport they excel in, I can’t see why it is not happening. If anyone is interested in starting the ball rolling, please contact me and I’ll see how I can help.

This is a long standing issue with many Thai visitors here also
Especially at the various UNI's
The other side of the coin is for Pharang married to Thai
A nebulous subject given the various social aspects of both cultures

Bring kids into the equation and much to do .
The Language and culture classes at the centre in Nollamara ( sp ?)
is a step in the right direction

@ Michael stirling effort re promotion of the sport . Albeit only one thread in the rich fabric and work yet to be done
I shall be down in Perth on Fri & Sat perhaps a catch up & discussion ?

Getting a message"accredited" to the Thai Community was steadfast on the traditional system.. word of mouth at the temple, over a meal. Well, at least that was my experience a few years ago.

When I found out about the Thai Community (temple) I reported what I found here [WA Thai BSWA]

The info is no doubt "out of date" but the fundamentals can be followed ie. the location, find our more and go.

The landing page W.A.Thai shows a link to W.A. Thai Community, select a group and advance your connection.

local social groups include a Soccer team - it may be out of date.
The WA Thai Business directory offers to promote popular Thai places.

If your social event/venue has a website submit in the WA Thai business directory. If you don't have a webpage we can arrange a free page if it's a community service.

The page can be hosted at www.wabiz.org

you create your info in a google document , we embed it in the webpage You then have a unique URL and you control the content as you own the google page.

ps: the comment from roaming reporter was (I think) it's hard as heck to promote the WA Thai Community, it's a volunteer task that had little reward whereas guiding Aussie to Thailand shows much betters results, the aussies can afford to come and the Thais are enthusiastic to serve I guess it has structure as a tourism process so it works whereas the WA Thai don't wish to be promoted or don't wish to support the way we were doing it and none came forward to help or particicpate so we just moved on.

In regard to Aussie to Thailand - Bangkok we created a "Community residence" and have inbound hosts (fee or free basis).
