Institute for Small and Medium Enterprises Development : สถาบันพัฒนาวิสาหกิจขนาดกลางและขนาดย่อม : Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) account for over 90 percent of business establishments in Thailand, employing over 60 percent of the labor force. During the time of economic crisis, SMEs enterprises as a whole proved to have better resiliency and adaptability, in comparison to large enterprises. Even at the peak of the crisis, new SMEs were being set up, and some SMES had been able to expand their business during the crisis. Recognizing SMEs asleverage for the benefit of the Thai Government created the Institute for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ISMED) in April 1999 at the main coordinating body for SME development. The new institution was assigned with the essential task in enhancing SMEs’ business capabilities and building their competitiveness.
