Ladyboys - A developed country culturally!

The Thai culture is an interesting culture. This is the place where people are allowed to do pretty much whatever they want as long as they do not hurt others in doing so. The Thai culture is such very tolerant culture especially on the topic of sexual orientation. It’s widely accepted to have 3 types of sex gender : male ,female, lady boy. Even teasing is done in such child-like manner that no one gets offended.

In Thai language the word “Puchai” is a man , “Puying” is a woman , “Puli”(Katoey is a slang) or lady boy is a he/she ; there is absolutely no negative connotation associated with it. People break into laughter when using interchangeably. For example , People laugh whenthey see  Puying who you call Puchai who acts like a Puying and a Puli with a hairy body from a Western country.

The notion that your happiness doesn’t rely on what others think , your happiness depend on what you are and what you think of yourself.

There should be much as freedom and humor in our relationship with others, as we have about ourselves. This is possible once we adopt a more tolerant attitude when everyone’s rights are respected as human beings, not as part of a sexual class, only then is real friendship possible even if  its between a normal guy and a lady boy.

In the End, no matter what sex class you are, or say you belong to, I may not trust you or tease you about it, but only because teasing is my way of friendship and then natural child-like affection that people are meant to have between peers. We should all only get mature and stuffy and indignant when any of our rights are in fringed. I never understand why American are so uptight about this issue. I wonder if this a cultural tradition? Or is it being Puritan?

Share with me your thoughts. I like to hear from you.

Wow

excellent article Khun Arwee.

In my country (Australia) I was brought up (edcuated) in an era where such things were un acceptable

example: Gay people were totally un accepatable and considered very bad and dangerous. I recall te common phrase was "bash a Poofter" which means if someonee did not conform to the "norm" (community) they should be attacked.

Thisalso means if you are a pansy (soft or girlie) so in school or in sports if you cried or did not show you were tough then you are not a "man"

But times change..

I recall to some surprise and confusion about 15 years ago when I went to the local school to wathc my daughters perform in morning "play". The boys were involved and showing their theater skills... at first I was horrified because it was so different to my experience and thought it was wrong,, but when I listened and learnt more from my daughters I realised the changes ..

so to cut short a long storey ...  over ther past few years when I have visited Thailand I have changed my attitude toward the kaetoy from "oh they are so weird" to wow it's a nice place where everyone can be happy.

anyway that's a little hard to explain to people in a few words ...  I would remind everyone that talking to someone (kaetoy) or whatever everyone is different when they are in their role play ie., on the stage or in their job as a salesperson and wuite different to when they are themself..

anyway thanks for your article and the chance to share thoughts
