6 ways to meet your valentine

Valentine’s Day: It’s the prime time for couples to celebrate love with shiny gifts and gooey cards, flowers, lace and pink hearts. But what about the single set? What happens to those of us who spend Valentine’s Day wrapped in our PJs with pints of ice cream in front of the TV?

Whether you’re seeking affection or not, there are proven ways to make Valentine’s Day more palatable — even pleasurable! You still have time: Read on and create yourself a not-so-solo Valentine’s Day!

1. Don’t get desperate. It’s OK to be single, even if others don’t applaud you. They may not admit it, but you are the envy of nearly every kid-clad couple strapped to a minivan, stuck with Spaghetti-O suppers, and restricted to only the occasional night of freedom. So embrace and enjoy your singleness while you’ve got it; the odds are good that it won’t last, and one day soon you’ll look upon the single set with envy too.

2. Start circulating. When you’re looking for love (or at least a date), you’ve got to get out there with other eligible singles! You’ll never meet someone while perched on your posterior at home. Resist the urge to invest your time in the TV set; instead, get out for any and every reason—invent one if you must. Just get yourself out to mingle among like-minded singles. Bookstores, dog parks, coffee shops, restaurant hot spots. Increase your chances and post a profile at online dating sites. The more exposure, the better.

3. Make your approach. So you’re out and about in various singles havens. Now what? Flirt! Approach that hottie who shares your interest in fine wines at the bookstore or a local wine-tasting event. Buy a shot (of espresso) for the cutie dragging into the coffee shop. Send Fido off to make the move for you at the park. Just lose the fear factor and make your approach. What have you got to lose?

4. Dump the rules. You like someone; that someone likes you back. But you certainly don’t intend to expose your heart first, right? You must—must—lose this attitude if you intend to find romance by Valentine’s Day. Let your special someone know you’re interested and you may be on your way to couplehood.

5. Plan a singles party. Spend the weeks leading up to February 14th planning a get-together for your fellow singles. Not only will this give you something more worthy of your concentration than pining for a sudden, spontaneous someone, but your friends will also appreciate the new tradition and enjoy a diversion from the day intended for couples. Go for the standard dinner and drinks or try a theme party like “Date Exchange,” where all guests are asked to bring an available member of the opposite sex. The only rule? Flirting is required.

6.Meet your match at"Match.com" For those not so content with sitting around single on Valentine’s Day, you can meet your match—and many have done it in 30 days or less. Once you’ve posted your profile, you’ll receive a list of your best personal matches based on your background, lifestyle, and interests. And we’re not talking about a handful of prospects; there are millions of singles at "Match.com" — some eager to find you by Valentine’s Day!
