Training for a contact sport in another country can be a real adventure. You not only get to build up your body but also get to meet new friends and fellow sports buffs, visit great places and experience the country's culture. If Muay Thai is your passion, Thailand is the best place to experience it.

Muay Thai training in the land where it all began goes beyond just learning the techniques of this ancient martial arts. It combines getting in shape, losing weight, competing in fights and relaxation.

Foreign visitors eager to start on this path are no longer limited to being trained for professional competition unlike in the past. More choices are now available for the serious martial arts enthusiasts and those who simply want to stay fit courtesy of the various training camps that have been put up around the country.

Tour packages cover varied activities including sightseeing and body pampering in an authentic Thai spa center. There are various packages to choose from or you can personalize your own tour and select destinations as well as activities you prefer to visit.

Training Only

Visitors who prefer to train in a Muay Thai gym and stay in a separate location can always look for an accommodation outside the camp. They have plenty of choices particularly if they choose to be in the cities of Bangkok and Chiang Mai. At the same time, they have every opportunity to entertain themselves in the different attractions in place during their day off.

This route is ideal for the more adventurous tourists who want to avoid a set schedule while in Thailand but would rather have more control over their training and leisure times.

Training schedules vary by camp. Normally, though, there are two sessions per day - one in the morning and one in the afternoon going to early evening.

Training with Accommodation

Those who don't want to travel back and forth have an option to book their training and accommodation in just one camp. Many camps offer a place to stay for their fighters and members serious in learning about the national sport. They are equipped with all the necessary facilities from the Muay Thai gym, fitness center and shop that sells sports gear to the restaurant, housing, swimming pool and even washing machines.

Regardless of the type of training package you choose, most will let you experience watching a live fight in a stadium. These stadiums (Lumpini, Ratchadamnoen and Channel 7 hold regular fights every week usually from late afternoon to evening. Tickets and transportation are included in the package.
